Pupils and several community groups in Wales dress up to celebrate St David’s Day every March 1. Without this ceremony, you will not see the tall hat, apron, petticoats, and shawl.
The fancy costume did not originate from Wales. It was worn by countrymen in England and Wales before Augusta Hall- Lady Llanover popularized the costume as the Welsh National costume in the late 19th century.
