According to U.S. News & World Report, the University of Utah has an acceptance rate of 89.1%. Half of the newly admitted students at the University of Utah presented an SAT score between 1190 and 1390 or an ACT score of 22 and 29.

SAT requirements

According to PrepScholar.com, the University of Utah requires an average SAT score of 1285. Utah generally prefers prospective students to be among the top 36% of the SAT.

ACT Requirements

Admission records show that Utah regularly admits students with an ACT of 22 or higher. Successful applicants typically send their ACT scores and are among the 37% of students nationwide who score highest on the test.

Intending students with a combined ACT score of 26 or higher should be at the top of the applicants and stand a good chance of being admitted, while students with a score of 29 or higher have highly competitive odds.

University of Utah admission deadline

The table below shows the University of Utah application deadlines that students must adhere to to ensure admission. For graduates, the timing of some courses is different. Application times for international undergraduate students are shown in the table below.

How to Apply as a Freshman

Freshmen are students who have not previously attended a regionally accredited college or university or have only attended college courses before graduating from high school.

Submit your application

Fill in the Common Application.
You will need the contact information of your high school counsellor.
A copy of your transcript can be useful.
Recommendation letters or a personal essay are not needed.
You must pay a $55 application fee to apply.

Send official high school transcripts

You need to send your official high school transcript.
Please note that if you have submitted a high school counsellor to be your reference or recommender, they may submit your official secondary school transcript for you. This eliminates the need to submit it yourself.
Paper transcripts can be sent via mail directly from your high school or sent to the office of admissions in a sealed envelope.
The electronic form of transcripts can be requested from one of the platforms that offer such services such as Credentials Solutions, Parchment/Naviance, National Student Clearinghouse, eScrip-Safe or Scoir
If you are asked to provide the recipient’s email address when ordering a transcript, please email admisstranscripts@utah.edu. Transcripts which are received by e-mail or fax are not considered official.
If you took the GED exam instead of a high school diploma, submit your official GED results directly from the GED website.

Submit official test results

Test results should be submitted directly from ACT or the College Board with test codes listed below:

Test results cannot be accepted through a high school transcript.

The University of Utah Acceptance Rate for International Students and Application Process

There is no separate or documented acceptance rate for international students at the University of Utah the school’s general acceptance is the same for domestic and international students.

If you are an international student, you can apply for admission by submitting the Common Application. Be sure to complete the application in full, as eligibility will be determined by the application.

Application Fees

There is an application of $65 for international students that is non-refundable. Visa holders are not exempt from fees. The application will not be considered complete until the application fee has been paid. Do not send cash.

F1 visa applicants currently residing outside the United States

If you are applying for an F-1 student visa, there is no guarantee that the school will be able to issue you an initial I-20 Certificate of Eligibility if the following two conditions are not met within the following deadlines:

The admission decision has been made
The school have received and checked all immigration documents

University of Utah Transfer Acceptance Rate and Requirements

Utah accepts 57.09% of students who apply for transfer into different programs in the school and the process is quite competitive. To be able to transfer to the University of Utah, you must meet the following requirements.

Minimum GPA

Applicants must have a GPA of 2.6 or higher that can be transferable and have completed 30 hours in a semester or must have completed an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree of 2.35 or higher.

The GPA to be transferred will not include remedial courses, credits from non-regionally accredited institutions, or exam scores (AP, IB, CLEP, FLATS, etc.).

Official Transcripts

If you completed less than 30 transferable hours in a semester or less than 45 quarter hours that are transferable, you must submit an official high school transcript.

SAT Scores:

If you completed less than 30 transferable hours in a semester or 45 quarter hours that are transferable and have graduated from a high school is not regionally accredited, taught at home, or earned a GED, you must submit an official ACT or SAT score.

Application fee:

You are to pay a non-refundable application fee of $55 for local students. The non-refundable application fee for student students who do not reside in the US (international students) is $65.

Other requirements

For many undergraduate majors, entry requirements are very strict compared to general university entry requirements. Transfer students should consider these requirements when planning junior college course curricula.
